Built in 1766, St. Paul’s Episcopal Chapel stands across from the World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan. For eight months after the bombings of September 11, 2001, hundreds of volunteers worked around the clock in the church serving meals, providing counseling, and praying with those dealing with the aftermath of the attack.
Today the chapel continues its ministry of remembrance with an extensive exhibit that recalls its unique role at Ground Zero. Video clips, artifacts, and an interactive timeline allow visitors to place the tragedy in a spiritual context, delivering a message of hope and healing through the stories of the many people involved in relief efforts. In addition to its role as a pilgrimage site, St. Paul’s is an active parish, offering services, concerts, and lectures for seekers of all faiths.
Did You Know? Despite being located right across from the bombing site, St. Paul’s sustained no damage on September 11, 2001.
