Travel Information for Egypt

Camel tours are a popular tourist activity in the Sinai (Lori Erickson photo)

International flights to Egypt land in Cairo, where an entry visa must be purchased.

From there pilgrims can take a one-hour flight to the Sinai Peninsula. The resort area of Sharm El-Sheikh, which borders the Red Sea, has a wide range of accommodations.

Hotels can book your tour into the interior of the peninsula, including St. Catherine’s Monastery and other monastic sites.

It is also possible to stay overnight in the monastery’s guesthouse or in a nearby hotel.  See for information on St. Catherine’s.

In Cairo, book a guided tour of Coptic Cairo from your hotel or take a taxi to explore on your own.
